Description

The Annunciation, the Birth of Christ, and the Baptism of the Lord are the three intricately linked stories which are depicted within this Christmas triptych. The shape of this folding icon resembles a European framed altarpiece known as a retable, the doors of which are elegantly ornamented in the Novgorod style. The Image of Edessa is shown on the apex, with a wreathed floral ornamentation and a medallion with the words of the Christmas Troparion on the reverse.
