Description

The miraculous Support of the Humble icon depicts the Divine Infant sitting in the lap of the Virgin Mary, who holds a sceptre. Christ touches Her cheek with his right hand, and in His left hand he holds an orb, a symbol of power over the world. The reverse side of the piece depicts the icon of one of the twelve Great Feasts of Orthodoxy, Palm Sunday, in which the Saviour is met by the people, who throw their clothes and palm branches onto the road and shout, «Hosanna ! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel! »
