Description

On the case of this miniature hinged triptych is the sacred image of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ with the Blessed Virgin and John the Theologian in the foreground. The internal surface of the leaves are crafted the form of an iconostasis, made up of Jesus Christ on a throne, the icon of the Virgin Hodegeteria, and a sacred image of Nicholas the Miracle Worker. On the reverse of the icon is a prayer to the pious Saint Nicholas and the prayer “Let God arise” addressed to the Holy Cross. The composition is crowned by an apex with a depiction of the Image of Edessa.
