Good Shepherd

The image of Christ bearing a sheep is known as Christ the Good Shepherd. It symbolizes the Parable of the Lost Sheep, which tells the story of the Lord’s concern for his flock. “Which of you men, if you had one hundred sheep and lost one of them, would not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after the one that was lost, until he found it? When he has found it, he carries it on his shoulders, rejoicing.” (Luke 15:3¬7). This image was already well known in the second century CE and is widely used in iconography today.
