The miraculous icon of Our Lady of Tikhvin depicts the communion of the Blessed Virgin with the Infant Christ, and how they regard each other. The image of the Hodegetria ( “She who Shows the Way”), which was painted according to legend by Luke the Evangelist, exists in several rolls revered by the Russian Orthodox Church. The reverse side of the piece shows one of the most important events of the Gospels: the Transfiguration of Our Lord God and Saviour Jesus Christ, a phenomenon of the Kingdom of God on Earth.
