Saint George was a Christian saint from the turn of the fourth century who lived during the reign of the Emperor Diocletian, and was martyred after an eight-day ordeal. The pendant icon presents the most vivid scene from the life of the early Christian saint, which metaphorically embodies victory over paganism.When viewed at close range, V.M. – the initials of the master, Vladimir Mikhailov – can be made out on the horse’s hoof.
