The Saviour on the Throne is one of the most ancient types of iconographic depiction of the Saviour. Jesus Christ is depicted as the King of Heaven, sitting solemnly upon his Throne. The right hand of the Saviour is raised in a gesture of blessing and his left hand holds an open Gospel. On the reverse side of the piece is an image of the Holy Mother, holding in her hand a scroll with a prayer to the Lord. A decorative border made up of four adornments with twelve beads placed between them runs along the edges of the piece.
