A small oval medallion bears the sacred image of Theotokos Iverskaya, one of the most ancient icons depicting the Virgin Mary. The icon has been known since the 11th century, and is kept at the Iviron Monastery on Mount Athos, in honour of which the icon is named. The Blessed Virgin holds the Infant Jesus, who is bestowing blessings, in her left hand, and points to the Saviour with her right. The icon is adorned with fine wreathed ornamentation at the top and with miniature petals around the holy image. On the reverse is an image of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
